When it comes to short hair, getting your style looking perfect is actually mostly about the product, brush, and blow dryer. Make sure you invest in those and the hair straightener itself doesn’t have to be ultra-expensive. Of course, don’t get one of those cheapo versions from the drug store!
The most important decision you’ll be making is the size of your flat iron. For short hair, narrow plates anywhere from 1/2″ to 1″ are best. This means you’ll be able to easily style smaller sections of hair, which is crucial for those of you looking for that pixie look.
And The Winner Is…
Having said that, there are several models that we’ve tested that combine both quality and value. But there can only be one winner and at Hair Gurus, it’s the Infiniti Pro by Conair. It’s a Tourmaline Ceramic flat iron that has a 1″ plate, which is perfect for short hair.
Our Conair Infiniti Pro Review
While conducting our in-depth review, we have to say were more than impressed with the results. Considering its relatively low price tag compared to the high-end straighteners we’ve looked at in the past, we weren’t expecting much. And while we’re not going to be waxing lyrical here, we must say that the CS710R is a great product that does the job incredibly well for girls with short hair.
Conair’s straighteners also come with the following features:
- Ceramic build gives you anti-frizz protection and also causes less hair damage
- Heats up in 15 seconds
- 30 heat settings
- If you buy on Amazon, you get a complimentary oil treatment that protects and treats your hair
The oil treatment you get bundled with the product is actually pretty decent and not your average low-quality freebie, so it’s worth getting it via Amazon or other retailer that includes it for free for the same price. For girls that don’t protect their hair with oil before straightening, PLEASE change your routine. This is particularly true if you regularly straighten your hair, as otherwise you’ll be causing plenty of damage.
We also have to give a special mention to the fact that it reaches a scorching hot temperature in just fifteen seconds. For those of us who are a little impatient and can’t wait to get styling, this is a massive benefit. You can go up to 455 degrees (F!) with this thing, so if you have hair that struggles to do what you need it to the Conair works wonders.
While the box says 15 for the Infiniti’s max heat, we found it took around 45 seconds to a minute. At that point, we’re talking very hot. The only downside is that touching the product near the plates is just a tad uncomfortable, so be careful with that.
Overall, the model is just what you need for short hair. With a list price of just $44.99, it’s much cheaper than what your long-haired friends will be paying for similar results (ha!). Amazon usually has it going for less than $30, making it a bargain purchase – you won’t find anything of decent quality below this price.
One piece of advice when ordering on Amazon – make sure you order the correct plate width! We’ve had a number of readers come back to us saying they ordered and got the 1 1/4″ or the 1 3/4″ product instead. While not 100% obvious, the Infiniti Pro product page gives you the choice from a single page so just make sure you’ve selected the right one.
What Others Say
When reviewing products, we always like to find out what other people have to say about the product. After all, we’re only having a couple of people use the straightener and so in a way, the review is limited.
These are some of the plus points we found:
- Stylists say it performs nearly as well as more expensive models
- Bargain for the price
- Heats up quickly
- Reaches hot temperatures quickly, helping girls with naturally wavy or curly hair
- Lasts a number of years
How to Straighten Short Hair
Straightening short hair isn’t just about getting the right product. Technique is also important. So as a cute little add-on to our review, we decided to give you a few tips to get your style just the way you want it.
How to Handle Cowlicks
Cowlicks can be a little problematic, particularly if you have several. What you want to do is isolate the area so that you can deal with the hair that’s pushing the opposite direction you want it to go in. Create a bit of tension on the hair by looping the comb around it – then take your blow dry in a single direction. You’ll want to use the nozzle to ensure you can direct the flow of the air.
The Wrapping Technique
With this technique, you’re going to use the shape of your head to help straighten your hair. Use a brush and comb at the same time. Always ensure you blow dry in the same direction as you’re combing. Go in every direction so that you can style easily after you’re done.
Use a flat brush – you can go for natural or synthetic bristles. Go for what works best with your hair type. If it’s taking a little too long you can always use your fingertips to remove a wee bit of the moisture.
If your hair is curly, focus on the roots and do the best you can to prepare your hair for the flat iron.
Using Your Hair Straightener
Right, we’re at the final stage now. The good thing about having short hair is that blow drying actually does most of the legwork when it comes to straightening your hair. The flat iron can be used to ‘touch up’ your hair or if it’s particularly curly, to straighten out the ends. It shouldn’t take you more than a minute or two!
